Five Horsepower

Five Horsepower - Lancaster County, Pennsylvania - May 3, 2003
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania – May 3, 2003

This is one of my favorites from about nine years ago. The week before, I had spotted several farmers plowing their fields, and believe it or not, I didn’t have my camera with me (very rare). I returned to Lancaster County the following week, expecting not to find the shot, but hoping, and sure enough I found 3 different farmers plowing “the old fashion way”. Some were even using mules.

This shot is one of my favorites from that day.

Cat Bird at Winterthur

Cat Bird at Winterthur - Wilmington, Delaware - May 1, 2011
Winterthur Estates – Wilmington, Delaware – May 1, 2011

Last year, on this date, since it was such a nice day, we took a drive to Delaware (about a half hour from Philadelphia). We decided to go to one of our favorite places there, The Winterthur Museum/Estates. Founded by Henry Francis du Pont, Winterthur (pronounced “winter-tour”) is the premier museum of American decorative arts, reflecting both early America and the du Pont family’s life there. Its 60-acre naturalistic garden is among the country’s best, and its research library serves scholars from around the world.

I spotted this bird. I was going to ask all of you what kind of bird it was, but fortunately, there was a bird guide in the gift shop that I used to identify the critter.

Wooden Hooker on Balcony

Wooden Hooker on Balcony - Saddle Ranch, Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles , California - April 29, 2009
Saddle Ranch, Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles , California – April 29, 2009

I took this photograph on yesterday’s date in 2009.

While hanging at the Actor’s Studio with my friend Terry Moore, I went across the street to get us some coffee. Right next to the Starbuck’s on Sunset Blvd. is the Saddle Ranch. This interesting restaurant/bar has several mannequins outside, on upstairs balconies. Here is one of them.
