Sparrow Neighbor

Sparrow Neighbor - Tree in front of my house, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - March 28, 2010
Tree in front of my house, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – March 28, 2010

I shot this out my front window on Sunday.

I have a wonderful Nikon 70-300mm lens that is great for photographing wildlife.
I zoomed as close as I could to catch this shot, but it wasn’t close enough for my liking.
So, I cropped/enlarged the area of interest, muted the distracting background (blured and lightened) and added a painterly effect to the main subject.

I decided to include the original for comparison.

I hope you like it.

Sprouting Hosta

Sprouting Hosta - My Backyard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - March 26, 2010

My Backyard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – March 26, 2010

Another sign of Spring. I couldn’t believe the bright, beautiful green color of this sprouting Hosta.
The similarity to yesterdays flame photograph is an interesting side note.

Tech note: I used my 90mm macro lens and an off-camera flash to give the sprout a soft backlight.

Earth Hour Candle

Earth Hour Candle

In my kitchen, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – March 27, 2010

To honor Earth Hour for Saturday, March 27 at 8:30 PM, we turned off all the lights and lit a
candle in the kitchen. Sitting there in the dark for an hour, I was mezzmerized by the candle
flame, which triggered my photo sense. “I’ll take a close-up of the flame”, I thought.

Here it is. I converted it to black & white.

Passover begins tonight. Good Yuntuv, as they say in Yiddish

Raindrops on The Edge

Raindrops on The Edge - Ivy plant in my backyard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - March 22, 2010
Ivy plant in my backyard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – March 22, 2010

Here is the final image I shot on Monday, in my backyard. This one is very unusual, kind of looks like Wall•E, the robot, doesn’t it?

Have a nice weekend. It will be raining here in Philadelphia, maybe even snow flurries…
The rain is really helping to accelerate the coming of Spring.

Wow, Leonard Nimoy is 79 today…
