Solo Snow Sparrow

South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - February 22, 2008
South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – February 22, 2008

More snow last night, here in Philadelphia, but Spring is around the corner (thank goodness).

I shot this two years ago in my neighbor Randy’s backyard, from my upstairs’ window.

Totem Sunset

Virgin, Utah - February 24, 2009
Virgin, Utah – February 24, 2009

I took this a year ago, yesterday. About two blocks from my friend Jeff’s house, in Utah, is a trading post/restaurant run by his friend, Bob. It’s called Buffalo Trails Trading Company (google map). Bob has this great big wooden totem next to his place. The sunset brought a great opportunity to shoot his dramatic silhouette.

Long Shadow on a Winter Day

Long Shadow on a Winter Day - New Holland, Pennsylvania - February 21, 2010
New Holland, Pennsylvania – February 21, 2010

Here’s another photograph I took on our Sunday road trip to Lancaster County to shoot the snow. As I mentioned
yesterday, it is indeed raining today, and the snow is slowly disappearing. I was looking for long tree shadows in the snow, but was pleasantly surprised by the bonus background, the farm house with silos.

Through the Peep Hole

Poole Forge Covered Bridge, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania - February 21, 2010
Poole Forge Covered Bridge, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania – February 21, 2010

Well, I finally went out shooting yesterday. We are expecting rain, so the snow will soon disappear. We decided to head out to Lancaster County. We discovered this great Covered Bridge at Historic Poole Forge. It spans the Conestoga River. I got some good shots of the bridge and decided to see if I could get a good photograph of the river from the bridge. There are only peep holes on the side walls of the bridge, so I thought it would be interesting to use one to “frame” the image. Just as I was composing a shot, I hear clakity-clak of horse hoofs and bingo, the Amish wagon entered my frame. I got several great shots yesterday, so look forward to more …
